Equanimity and freedom
The philisophy portion of last weeks class explored our relationship to our thoughts... this can be negative, judgemental, positive, blinded, tricked.... This over attachment and believing of thoughts can lead us into emotionally and mental troubled waters.
Equanimity is not indifference or not caring, it is a space of gentle holding and observing - where we separate from our thoughts enough to percieve our thoughts more clearly and objectively and in a more detached way to allow space to consider them anew.
The metaphor of becoming the blue sky that is stable and constant, bright and clear and watching the thoughts likened to clouds or weather is very useful.
Its easy to practice this in a class, but try to take these useful ways of thinking and being out into the world and use them as centerting tools when challenged and affected by your relationship to thoughts.
Each of my Wednesday evening classes is recorded and this allows folks to revisit the classes or do them in their own time.
This week as autumn becomes more evident we will embody and experiment with Aparigraha which is a very human quality of holding on rather than letting go to allow the new. Whether on the mat in trying to achieve the unachievable or at home holding onto an object, these themes are perfect for autumns release and shifts.
