Slow Medicine

I have been trying to rid myself of a lingering end of a summer cold for 3 weeks. I thought it would clear up on its own but my energy has been a bit low and there's a few annoying and niggling low grade symptoms. We often look for the quick fix, the fast medicine to get better swiftly, so we can get on and keep going, to not have to care for ourselves too much. Finally that little bit of unwell has made me stop and turn towards myself and practice the slow medicine that I know I need.

The change of season, especially from summer to Autumn is a hard one. We are moving from the lightest most active part of the year inwards to the harvest, release and mulch towards the darkness of autumn and winter. Our bodies take time to adjust. We can help ourselves by noticing and moving with, not against the changes, letting go and releasing/arriving into the present.

This week I brought in rest, by way of early nights and yoga nidras, baths, reading, sleep, saying no... I have harvested plants from nature - nettle leaves for infusions (rather than fast tea), nettle seeds for morning pep at breakfast. Miso soup, vegetable broths, elderberry jelly made last year and 'strong foods', whole foods with lots of veg, good protein, slow chewing and digesting. Some other herbs like ginger and garlic have gone into fresh juices. Also tea tree and eucalyptus hot water bowl breath infusions. Movement has been walks and yin rather than a stronger form of flow, the gym or swimming, low and behold I am starting to feel better. This inner listening is the key and is so often overlooked because it takes time, the thing we are most short of.

My classes are an invitation, and a space to be held in practices that help you to connect with your own needs and to support you through the inner and outer seasons of the year.

If you feel called our practice this week celebrates Autumn Equinox, with tailored movement medicine, few places in person or join us online from home. Take it easy.....
